Rebelution’s Biggest Debut Week Ever!

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on Rebelution’s Biggest Debut Week Ever!

Rebelution dropped their fourth studio album, Count Me In on June 10th via their own 87 Music in partnership with Easy Star Records. Riding the wave from their Peace of Mind release, Rebelution celebrates their biggest debut week ever!

Count Me In is the band’s second consecutive album to debut in the Top 15 (#14) of the Billboard 200, plus their third straight album to debut at #1 Reggae! In addition, the album makes a Top 5 debut on Billboard’s Independent chart (#2) in at #4 on the Digital chart.

“To have had our last two albums debut in the Top 15 is really exciting for both our band and the new style of reggae that is building,” said Rebelution’s vocalist Eric Rachmany. “We have a great sense of community and family with our fans, so the fact that they like this new album so much is beyond gratifying.”

The album includes 11 total tracks with special guest appearances by Collie Buddz and Don Carlos. The album was recorded in Miami out of Inner Circle’s Circle House Studios as well as recording done Burbank, CA between September December 2013.

“From writing these songs to mixing and mastering the album, we were involved in every step…We’re becoming comfortable expressing ourselves, both in the studio and on stage. This album was truly fun to make, it’s an honest expression of who we are” revealed Rachmany, and while much of the production was done by the band independently, Rebelution utilized the Reggae-Rock community whole-heartedly to create Count Me In.

Buffett performs at Coyote Drive-in

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Buffett performs at Coyote Drive-in

Jimmy Buffett performed at the Coyote Drive-in in Ft. Worth, Texas on Thursday night, and the show was simulcast at 87 drive-ins around the country. The set list from the show is now available.

From The Akron Beacon Journal: “Buffett fans rock out in drive-ins

Singer/songwriter/master marketer Jimmy Buffett has built a near half-billion dollar empire selling a philosophy and lifestyle primarily to boomers and increasingly their kids.

For 30-plus years, the 67-year-old and his Coral Reefer Band have toured the country with fans in tow, transforming America’s amphitheater parking lots into temporary Margaritavilles, named for his most famous — and his only for most non-Parrotheads — hit song.

But on Thursday night, Buffett, whose entire life resembles a really long, awesome dream, got to live out yet another dream. He performed a concert at the Coyote Drive-in in Panther Island, Ft. Worth, Texas and at the same time on screens at 87 drive-ins around the country, using a complicated technological process he described during the show as being beamed “from Ft. Worth to space and beyond.”

‘Roadies’ Pilot Picked Up By Showtime

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on ‘Roadies’ Pilot Picked Up By Showtime

Something awesome for music lovers – A new one-hour pilot, a comedy written directed by Cameron Crowe titled, ‘Roadies’, has been picked up by the Showtime network. The show will follow the day the life of the road crew for a successful touring rock band…

Keep in mind this is just a pilot episode – a standalone episode that is used to sell cameroncrowethe show to a television network. Most pilots are never publicly screened if they fail to sell a series to a network. If the series is picked up, it’ll be Cameron Crowe’s first TV Project.

Cameron Crowe will executive produce the pilot, along with Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams and My So-Called Life creator Winnie Holzman.

“Cameron Crowe is one of my all-time movie heroes,” said Showtime Networks president David Nevins. “Winnie Holzman created and wrote one of my favorite TV shows ever. J.J., among many other things, is a consummate television producer. Best of all: The comedy script they’ve come up with together is brilliant, original and full of life.”

If you’re any fan of music movies, then you’re familiar with the cult-classic Almost Famous that came out in 2000. Cameron Crowe directed the film and won an Oscar for it with best original screenplay. The film is loosely based on his own experience as a journalist for Rolling Stone magazine.

Cameron Crowe shared his own excitement for Roadies saying: “J.J. and I have been talking about it for some time. We’re fans of crews, those workers up on the rigging towers or walking feverishly with eight phones on their belt. Those quietly devoted people live huge lives; they’re often the real keepers of the flame. So happy to also be telling these stories with Showtime, and also with one of my very favorite writer-producers ever, Winnie Holzman. Let’s get this show on the road!”

JJ Abrams acknowledged: “Roadies is Cameron Crowe at his most musically passionate, colorful character best. We had been talking about the series for so long, but when he actually handed me the script, it was funnier and sweeter and wilder than I had ever imagined.”

No, this isn’t reggae-related, but it sounds like an awesome series that puts spotlight on the people behind scenes that we take for granted, or simply don’t know about, who help make everything come to life with your live-show experience!

Stay tuned for more details on any potential premiere, production casting!

Buffett’s new Beverly Hills home

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Buffett’s new Beverly Hills home

From Pursuitist.com: “See inside Jimmy Buffett’s new $8.25 million Beverly Hills home

When you think of Jimmy Buffett you think of Florida, the Caribbean, beaches and Hawaiian shirts. But the “Margaritaville” songwriter recently dropped $8.25 million for a sprawling, open estate in Beverly Hills.

Buffet’s new home was originally built in 1963, and was completely renovated by the previous owner. The home sports over 4,300 square feet of living space, four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The floor plan is open allowing flow from the living room, family room, kitchen and dining and outdoors for entertaining. Walls of glass throughout only enhance the home’s open feeling. There’s also a chef’s kitchen and office.

Outside, there’s a salt water pool and spa, a patio and bar.

Sad Week in Destin

Posted in Island Enthusiasts | Comments Off on Sad Week in Destin

This has been a tough week for Sunshine Cindy and me. When we got home from our trip, she picked up our dog and found our she had taken a turn for the worse. She was getting old and had health issues including cataracts. Well, in just a couple of days before we got home the cataracts got worse and worse to the point she was basically blind. Add to that her other health issues and we had to put her to sleep. It has been a hard couple of days for us and will be going forward. She will be missed terribly.

That situation has consumed us so we have not been out at all since we got home. But that does not mean things are not continuing to happen around town. More restaurants continue to open. Pretty soon there will be one restaurant for each person in the city at the rate we are going.

A couple of brothers from Niceville have opened a late night restaurant in the second floor of the Coyote Ugly building. They will serve the late night crowd. That is a good idea as that type of place is lacking in Destin.

Also in Destin a new food truck is operating. This place is open early on the harbor for the fishermen and then again for lunch on Calhoun Ave. This also seems to fill an underserved market in town.

Last but not least a new Texas BBQ joint is opening in Mary Ester. Several BBQ places have tried in that area so it will be interesting to see if they make it.

Over on the island they are finally going to build on the lot next to the Elks Lodge. It was going to be a Hilton but now it will be some other brand with a marina. Condo’s are also in the plan but not right away. This land used to have Dock of the Bay bar. I never made it there but I hear it was a locals hangout. It will be a couple of years before they get this done.

It looks like the tourist season in Destin this year is going to be the biggest yet. The traffic is already terrible and the busiest time is yet to come. Maybe all of those restaurants will have people to fill them up. But what will they do in the off season? The 12000 people who live here year round won’t be enough to support them all.

They need to get the locals to make it. Landshark Pizza is a perfect example. They continue to grow their business despite all the competition. Each Wednesday for the last few weeks they have set records for their wing night because they take care of their local customers. I know all the places say they will but you have to prove it. Harry T’s is another place that takes care of their local customers. You have to do that to survive in this town.

Friday night we will be at Crab Island Cantina with our Crab Island Mambo “Embrace the Chaos!” Trop Rock Music Series. Jan Patton will be playing for us. Join us from 5-9 pm on the Destin Harbor for this fun time.

A full report of the weekend will be presented on Monday. See ya then!
