Xavier Rudd And The United Nation – “Come People”
In the past, Xavier Rudd’s onstage one-man-band setup included a half-dozen guitar choices, three didgeridoos and various styles of native drum. With the release of Nanna, Rudd finds himself the front-man, amidst musicians from all corners of the globe, representing the diverse cultures of Australia, Indigenous Australia, South Africa, Samoa, Germany and Papua New Guinea.
Now a group with guitar, bass, drums, percussion, keys, horns, flute and backing vocals, the aptly titled Xavier Rudd The United Nations is symbolic of the message that all people of the world can come together, respect the ancient ways and return to spirit.
Nanna was produced by Xavier Rudd in Australia and mixed by Errol Brown at Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica. Nanna is Xavier’s ninth studio album, but his first as Xavier Rudd And The United Nations. The album includes 13 roots inspired reggae tracks with plenty of soul, spirit and cultural depth sounding like a cross between Groundation and Stephen Marley.
Released March 17th, 2015 on NettWerk Music Group, you can purchase Nanna on iTunes by clicking HERE!
Xavier Rudd Background:
Xavier Rudd is one of Australia’s most iconic voices. A multi-instrumentalist, surfer activist, Xavier’s ability to connect with people has been noted as astounding. Based out of Australia, Xavier Rudd released his debut album To Let in 2002 followed by his sophomore release of Solace in 2004. Over the next 10 years, he’d go on to release 7 more studio albums with his latest being the front-man of the United Nations with the release of Nanna on March 17th via NettWerk Music Group.
Rudd has paired with Environmental activists ‘Sea Shepherd’ to raise awareness to the sacred Kimberley Region in the North West of Australia and it’s imminent demise at the hands of Coal Seam Gas mining.
Xavier Rudd’s family built a self-sufficient home that features a standalone solar system, worm farm sewage and grey water system, rainwater collection and a hydronic heating system. As an avid surfer, Rudd feels particularly connected to the Earth when he’s on the water. He was also voted PETA’s World’s Sexiest Vegan, Rudd chose a vegetarian lifestyle early on. He was inspired to advocate against factory farming and animal testing.
In celebration of Nanna‘s release, Xavier Rudd and The United Nations have taken their show on the road for a North American tour that concludes on June 5th after 3 straight Colorado shows.
