Dirty Heads at the Old Ballgame

As legendary Los Angeles Dodgers play-by-play announcer Vin Scully put it, it was a beautiful day for baseball. On Monday, Sept 14th, 2015, the Dirty Heads stopped by Dodger Stadium to take part in the pre-game festivities, including a brief pre-game performance and the ceremonial first pitch.

Earlier this summer, the Dirty Heads took a trip to Dodger Stadium, while the team was away, to take batting practice on the field. A few weeks later, both the Dodgers and Dirty Heads announced that the band would soon be having a pre-game performance.

Before the game, the band stopped by FOX studios to perform “My Sweet Summer” on the local morning show Good Day LA, where they advertised their pre-game performance and upcoming appearance at the KABOO Festival in Del Mar, CA for Sept 19th, playing alongside No Doubt and The Killers.

The energy in the stadium was electric with fans that wisely chose to watch baseball over an underwhelming Monday Night Football game. After a hot and humid afternoon, the weather coincidentally cooled down as the Dirty Heads, donning personalized Dodgers jerseys, put on a laid-back acoustic performance of their hits “Lay Me Down” and “My Sweet Summer” from the top of the Dodgers dugout. After the brief performance,
(guitarist/vocalist) Duddy B took the field and proceeded to throw out the ceremonial first pitch to backup Catcher Austin Barnes before the crowd of 43,731 fans. He threw a solid fastball for a strike that drew praise from the Dodgers’ public address announcer.

Afterwards, the guys proceeded to hold an autograph session for several lucky fans in the stands while comedian Jim Gaffigan announced the starting lineups for both the Dodgers Colorado Rockies. Although brief, the band put on a performance equally as exciting as their full-length concerts, to the delight of fans and players alike. The guys were also visibly interacting with fans rocking their Dirty Heads merchandise in the stands.

“I have many fond memories as a kid coming to Dodger Stadium with my family,” says bassist David Foral. “There is something special about the cool breeze that blows through Chavez Ravine in late September. It was a complete honor to meet Tommy Lasorda, one of my childhood icons, and play on top of the Dodger dugout for the pre-game show. We’d like to thank the Dodger organization for having us there and would be pleased to come back any time.”

For those of you curious about the results of the game, back-to-back Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw pitched seven strong innings and rookie outfielder Scott Schebler hit a towering two-run home run in the 8th inning to help lead the Dodgers to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
