BreaktheCeilingSingleArt
“Break the Ceiling” Background:
Aloha Radio’s new single, “Break the Ceiling”, is what the group describes as an upbeat and inspiring mantra about overcoming adversity and self doubt. The four piece Orange County, CA natives will unquestionably draw comparisons to their old neighbors in No Doubt and much like No Doubt, they bring a poppy, bubble-gum style of reggae-rock lead by female vocalist Lauren Mulderrig.

“We wrote this song to empower those who have doubts about what they can or can’t achieve,” Mulderrig explains. “I wrestle with my own insecurities on a day to day basis and I know I’m not alone… I wanted ‘Break the Ceiling’ to serve as a reminder, that as long as you keep pushing and don’t ever give up, anything is possible.”

The production on the new single is modern and catchy as the group brings the bright visual fashion that Orange County is known for. Paired with a happy, positive message, the song makes me feel like it would be better enjoyed while consuming candy and wearing bright colored clothes. It’s a good listen while being in a good mood and has enough pop element that it escapes any annoyance that typically accompanies pop music, giving us just enough Aloha. Grab a stick of your favorite gum, perhaps a blow-pop or some jolly ranchers and press play on the music video below.

While you can download “Break the Ceiling” for FREE on the homepage for the week, you can pick up their back catalog of music on iTunes by clicking HERE!

Aloha Radio Background:
Over the past year Aloha Radio has evolved into one of Southern California’s most promising up and coming acts. Finding a home in the local reggae scene, Aloha Radio has created an alluring blend of indie-rock and reggae that encompasses all things West Coast. Aloha Radio’s latest single, “Break the Ceiling”, is an undeniably contagious anthem that foreshadows what is to come in the progression of their sound.

Formed in Orange County, CA by singer/ukulele player Lauren Mulderrig, the four piece’s latest achievements include sold out shows with Tribal Seeds and Shwayze, multiple San Diego TV appearences and releasing two full length albums (Stoked Broke / California Scheming) this past July. Aloha Radio ended 2015 feeling the love from their hometown with “California Scheming” being named one of OC Weekly’s Top 20 OC Albums of 2015.

As the band wraps up the recording of what will be their third album in a year, Aloha Radio continues to push the boundaries of their sound and inspiration. “This next album will be our party album,” states lead singer Lauren Mulderrig, “our party with a message album.”

Jimmy Buffett Musical to Debut in 2017

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Jimmy Buffett Musical to Debut in 2017

From the Hollywood Reporter: “Jimmy Buffett Musical in the Works

Directed by Christopher Ashley, the untitled production is eyeing a 2017 debut.

From a Jurassic World collaboration to … a new musical?

Indeed. A production featuring the music and lifestyle of “Margaritaville” musician Jimmy Buffett is in the works, producers Frank Marshall, Mindy Rich, Anita Waxman and Beth Williams announced Thursday.

Marshall featured his good friend Buffett in Jurassic World with a cameo as a Margaritaville restaurant bartender and included a new song by the musician on the film’s soundtrack. Buffett also performed at the blockbuster’s buzzy premiere party with the film’s star, Chris Pratt.

The as-yet-untitled Buffett show will include an original story by co-book writers Greg Garcia (creator of My Name Is Earl, Raising Hope and Yes, Dear) and Mike O’Malley (Yes, Dear and Glee), with Tony Award nominee Christopher Ashley (Memphis, Xanadu) on board to direct.

The idea of turning ‘Margaritaville’ into a musical has been percolating for quite a while, but finding the right people to tell the right kind of story to go with the right songs from my catalog took some time,” Buffett said in a statement. “Now we have found our crew and I am happy to sail with them to ‘Margaritaville.’ It’s going to be a fun voyage.”

Garcia added: “Buffett’s music means so much to so many people. It’s a lifestyle. A way of looking at the world. We hope to tap into what Jimmy has created and help bring that fun to the stage.” Added Ashley: “Not only is his song catalog a treasure trove, but we also have his unique spirit to draw upon for inspiration.”

While no indication has been given whether the show is aiming for Broadway or a regional tryout, details are expected to be announced for a 2017 world premiere. Ashley serves as artistic director of La Jolla Playhouse, making that seem a likely first destination for the project.

Christmas season in Destin

Posted in Island Enthusiasts | Comments Off on Christmas season in Destin

Christmas time in Destin is one of best times of the year. This is small town living at its best. We have snowbirds in town and but it’s mostly locals that are now out and about. This past weekend was the Destin Christmas parade. The entire town turns out for this fun event.

The parade runs from the parking lot at Old Time Pottery west down Hwy. 98 to Stalman Ave. by Whataburger. It’s a long route running almost two miles. The sheriff’s office does a good job moving traffic to the east bound lanes of 98 with the parade going down the west bound lanes. With almost 100 different groups in the parade it takes almost two hours to complete.

Sunshine Cindy and I took Chaos and went to Landshark Pizza to watch the parade. We sat on the front patio giving Chaos a front row seat. One of the funny things that happened was early in the parade. There was a big gap between groups. We could see up the road it looked like a vehicle was having a problem. It turned out it was our friends with the Parrot Head club. They had Jan playing music but there was a problem with the inverter they used for power from the vehicle. So Jan ended up walking along with everyone else. He even took a seat with some of the folks watching the parade at one point. Jan knows how to work a crowd.

When the Parrot Heads went by Landshark, Bobby and Mike ran across the street dodging cars to give us beads. That was funny as everyone at Landshark got a kick out of it. The rest of the parade was a typical small town parade with marching bands, politicians, local businesses and of course Santa coming up the rear in a fire truck.

Sunday was the Destin Boat parade. Each December in the harbor dozens of decorated boats run along the harbor for crowds along the boardwalk and in the restaurants. This year they added a fireworks display at the end of the boat parade. This type of parade honors our waterfront location. It was a fun evening on the harbor.

After the Saturday parade Sunshine Cindy and I stayed at Landshark. Some of our Parrot Head friends came and joined us. Chaos was like a princess holding court on the patio. The weather was perfect. It was in the 70’s and the sun was shining. In fact, it was warm for many days. We actually turned our air conditioner on at home. I loved it.

Friday night we had a Parrot Head meeting at LuLu’s. The club announced the volunteer of the year award will now be dedicated to and called the Capt. John Gardner award. Debbie and Ron were this year’s winners. We lost Capt. John this year but his big heart and generosity will live on with this yearly award.

Yes, I went to watch the Browns again on Sunday at Landshark. But this week they actually won. Johnny Football is looking like a real quarterback now. We might have some light at the end of this tunnel yet. LOL  While I was there Brian and Glen joined me for a while. Glen had some smoked venison he let me try that was really good. A big crowd was there watching all the various games.

The rest of our week was spent with Chaos. She is growing so fast. It seems like almost every day we can see her get bigger. She is a sweet puppy that likes to play like most puppy’s do. Hard to believe we have only had her for a couple of weeks. It seems like she has been a part of our family forever.

There’s not much else new happening in Destin right now. This is a slow time where the locals can come out and play. Have a great week. See ya next Monday.
