Margaritaville to Launch Mobile Game in July 2016

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Margaritaville to Launch Mobile Game in July 2016

From Variety.com: “Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville to Launch Mobile Game (Exclusive)

Jimmy Buffett has turned his 1977 hit tune “Margaritaville” into a multifaceted business empire that encompasses restaurants, hotels and casinos, and merchandise.

Now the crooner-turned-entrepreneur’s company is looking to further extend his chilled-out, tropically resonant brand into new avenues of media and entertainment, starting with a casual mobile game slated to launch this summer.

Margaritaville Enterprises, aiming to delight Buffett buffs, is creating the app with game developer FunPlus. The Margaritaville game, to be released around Comic-Con International in July, will let fans find their lost shakers of salt and explore other Margaritaville-themed experiences in “a virtual paradise.”

Heading up Margaritaville Enterprises’ content initiatives is Laura Lee, president of media and chief digital officer, who joined the company last year after eight years at YouTube. “Margaritaville is so much more than just a product or a destination — it’s a lifestyle — and we want to bring that escapist attitude to the digital realm with Margaritaville’s first-ever casual mobile game,” Lee said.

Casual gaming is one of the fastest-growing segments in digital media, she noted. “Our strategic partnership with FunPlus allows us to connect with loyal fans in a fresh and exciting way while also tapping the interest of new audiences,” Lee said.

Margaritaville has more than 15 million visitors annually at its physical locations and 5 million followers across social media. That will serve as a large core base audience for Margaritaville’s content productions, according to Lee.

The company’s current media properties include streaming-video site Margaritaville.tv and Radio Margaritaville, a 24-hour music service available online and on Sirius XM satellite radio.

25 Bob Marley Quotes Everyone Should Know

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on 25 Bob Marley Quotes Everyone Should Know

If he were still alive, the Honorable Robert “Bob” Nesta Marley, O.M. (Order of Merit), would have turned 71 years old on February 6th, 2016. He is still, even after all these years following his death, one of the most beloved musicians in the world.

Bob Marley used his great musical talent to fight for the rights of poor and oppressed peoples, in Jamaica and all over the world. Bob’s lyrics resonate over pulsating reggae beats into the ears, hearts, and the consciousness of generations worldwide, forcing them to bear witness to racial and social oppression. Bob requires us all to, “stand up for [our] right[s], and never give up the fight.” His songs are infused with social and moral consciousness; they challenge us to live better, to be better, and to treat one another better — to be true brothers and sisters to one another — and above all to raise up the poor and the downtrodden.

And The Grammy Goes To…

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on And The Grammy Goes To…

MORGAN HERITAGE… On Monday night, Morgan Heritage took home the GRAMMY for Best Reggae Album for their album Strictly Roots. Upon its release in April, Strictly Roots topped the Billboard reggae charts and received an abundance of critical praise, including a Four Star Album Review from The Pier’s Tommy Dubs.
Morgan Heritage Grammy Winners
This was the group’s first GRAMMY nomination, and win. “Thank you to all our Fans and Team that played apart of Strictly Roots Album! WE WON…YES RASTA!” the group proclaimed via Twitter.

Particular standouts from the album include the lead singles “Perform and Done” and “Wanna Be Loved,” as well as guest appearances from Reggae heavyweights Chronixx, J Boog, Eric Rachmany of Rebelution, Shaggy, and more. Strictly Roots was the first release on the group’s own independent label CTBC Music Group and co-produced with Don Chandler, Seani B, Shane C. Brown, Jason ‘J-Vibe’ Farmer, Matthieu Bost and Jeremie Dessus.

When describing the album, Mojo Morgan explained, “This album pushes the envelope lyrically and musically like never before. It will surprise and enlighten music lovers all over the globe. We feel as if we’ve covered the full spectrum of Jamaican music and how it has influenced today’s global music industry. The root of these influences you hear come from Jamaica. Hence the title ‘Strictly Roots.’”

In a nominee field including the likes of Jah Cure, Rocky Dawuni, Barrington Levy and Luciano, Morgan Heritage pulled out a tough but well deserved victory. After a short celebration period, the group will hit the road for the brief Keep On Jammin Winter Tour with Blackalicious and Jemere Morgan.

We’d like to congratulate all of this year’s nominees and extend Morgan Heritage special praise for an excellent album. Lat year, Ziggy Marley won Best Reggae Album for his Live record. Now I wonder who’ll take home a GRAMMY next year?

In case you didn’t see it on TV, here is Morgan Heritage officially accepting their award on stage. It is a bit funny to see them come out to the house music playing “One Love” by Bob Marley, even though Bob Marley never won a Grammy.

Additionally,
it’s not like a recording that was made at some gig in say, 1988, with some fan
holding up a mic among 60,000 fans. This is with the late Steve Goodman and
recorded before Jimmy Buffett, was “Jimmy Buffett”.  Although My Friend Dave said all he wanted was
to hand JB a CD, shake his hand, and go on his merry way, my contact and I
talked about My Friend Dave and JB having lunch together for the exchange. That
would be nice! A casual lunch at maybe Scottie’s in Coconut Grove, mere blocks
away from where the original gig took place, well over forty years ago.

What better way to spend a day than reading a fun book? It’s only $3.99!!!
Yes., that’s right, $3.99 and you can get it anywhere in the world via
Amazon download.
By the way, the Kindle reader app is a FREE download for PC’s, Mac, iPad’s
smart phones… you name it! Gives you access to over 15,000,000 books! see

We Remember Dennis Brown is expected to be on shelves in late spring 2016.

Dennis Brown was revered across the globe for his caressing voice, and prolific songwriting. He began his extraordinary recording career as an 11 year old, then went on to release more than 75 albums, influencing both his contemporaries and the subsequent generations of reggae artists. NPR recognized Dennis Brown as one of the 50 greatest voices all time, proving that his lovers rock music transcended well beyond the reggae community.

In anticipation of the upcoming album and in celebration of Dennis Brown’s birthday month (DB would have turned 59 on February 1st), VP Records is leaking one song every Friday during February. Romain Virgo‘s rendition of “Caress Me” and Raging Fyah‘s take on “Milk and Honey” are already available, and covers by Jah9, The Green, and Marsha Ambrosius are on deck for the rest of February.

We’ll have to wait until spring for the following tracks, but We Remember Dennis Brown will also feature tributes from Chronixx, Jah Cure, Gyptian, Freddie McGregor, Jesse Royale, Bushman, and many others. Each song on the compilation has been masterfully re-produced by the renowned Jamaican producer Clive Hunt.

Be sure to check back to The Pier for an update on an official release date for VP Records’ tribute to Dennis Brown. In the meantime, check out the first two singles released from We Remember Dennis Brown, and tune in on Fridays for the next series of singles to be released from the album.
