The last time Slightly Stoopid found themselves performing inside TRI Studios, back in 2011, it translated into a live DVD and two disc CD release entitled “Live At Roberto’s.” Whether or not this will translate into a “Live at Roberto’s Vol. II” may entirely depend on the performance itself, which leaves little doubt with us Stoopid Heads who would love to see a Vol. 2 release, performing newer material from their last studio album Meanwhile… Back at The Lab and Top of the World among other gems they didn’t perform their first time around.

Alborosie’s ‘Freedom & Fyah’ LP

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on Alborosie’s ‘Freedom & Fyah’ LP

The multi-talented Italian Jamaican reggae musician, Alborosie, is prepared to release his latest studio album on May 20th, 2016. The 13-track album, titled Freedom Fyah, will be released via Greensleeves Records. Freedom Fyah is full of Alborosie’s signature earworm hooks and gravelly vocals, and puts forth a complete range of sounds, touching on everything from dub to dubstep.

Alborosie’s new album also includes support from a number of top-notch reggae artists, most notably Ky-Mani Marley and Protoje respectively on “Life To Me” and “Strolling.” Sugus, who previously served as a back up vocalist for reggae icons Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs, jumps on a pair of songs called “Fly 420” and “Zion Youth,” and Sandy Smith grabs a feature on the track “Carry On.”
Born Alberto D’Ascola in the Italian island of Sicily, Alborosie has been cemented in reggae since his childhood. He first gained success and recognition throughout Europe as a member of the Italian group Reggae National Tickets. Soon after, he made the pilgrimage to Jamaica to fully immerse himself in the reggae community; He’s been there ever since. Alborosie has become a household name in reggae due to his prolific songwriting ability, extraordinary work as a producer and multi-instrumentalist, and his distinct gritty voice. Alborosie currently runs Shengen Studios in the foothills of Kingston, Jamaica. The studio proudly possesses equipment formerly owned by legendary reggae forefathers King Tubby and Coxsone Dodd. With a collection of hit songs and handful of critically acclaimed albums, including Soul Pirate (2008), Escape To Babylon (2009), and Sound The System (2013), already under his belt, Alborosie now puts forth Freedom Fyah to further solidify his reggae entity.

It’s now Destin’s “shoulder season.”

Posted in Island Enthusiasts | Comments Off on It’s now Destin’s “shoulder season.”

Once Spring Break ends and before the Summer chaos, we have what’s known as “The Shoulder Season.” This is the time between the seasons. It is when Destin is at its best as the crowds are less and the weather is almost perfect.

This past week Sunshine Cindy and I didn’t do a whole lot. I got out on Friday after work as Sunshine Cindy wanted to stay home. I went to Landshark Pizza to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game. It was a good game and Tampa won. Courtney and “By God West Virginia” (I can’t remember her name but she is from WVA) were behind the bar. Steve was there as usual. I also ended up talking to an airman. He was a nice guy who started rooting for the Lightning with me. He is from Boston and a Bruins fan but they are out so he jumped teams. LOL

Saturday was spent working around the house again. We (actually Sunshine Cindy) finished the outside work as I just helped move stuff. It really looks great now. Our neighbor Rhett come and sprayed our driveway and sidewalk with something called “White Ox.” It is a water stain remover and works like a champ on the sprinkler stains. The outside looks fantastic with new plants and mulch.

Sunday was another day of work for Sunshine Cindy but this day was inside. I just get in the way so she told me to go to the harbor so she could work. When she is in the cleaning mode it’s best to vacate the premises. I took Chaos to the dog park for a while where I got her good and worn out. Then I went to Crab Island Cantina for the Drop Dead Dangerous and BT Turner show.

The weather was perfect. There was a marathon that was run in the morning so the traffic was a mess. I parked at the Civic Center as I could not get across 98. At the Cantina a big crowd was there. Melanie, Kitty and BT put on a fun show. The girls are really starting to make a name for themselves. Check them out on Facebook and catch a show when they are in your area. And of course BT plays every Sunday at the Cantina.

After the show I went back to Landshark for some dinner and to see the start of the Lightning game three. Steve was there again and Tony came in too. I watched the first period and could tell Tampa was not into the game. After I ate I went home to see what Sunshine Cindy had done. The inside of the house was immaculate…And she was wore out! We sat outside and had a beer and talked for a while. The rest of the evening was spent watching TV and Sunshine Cindy went to bed early.

I didn’t hear too much new news from around the town this week. I guess everyone is catching their breath from a busy Spring Break.

Have a great week. I took the week off so I am sure I will have some stories for you next Monday. See ya then!

Destin Steve

MP3 Leak of the Week: Leilani Wolfgramm

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on MP3 Leak of the Week: Leilani Wolfgramm

While Leilani Wolfgramm continues to work on the release of her next studio album, Bipolar, we’re giving away a sneak peak of the new material she’s written with her new song, “Adrian.” Plus, she plans to take her show on the road to Hawaii…

You can download Leilani Wolfgramm’s new track, “Adrian”, for FREE on our home page under the MP3 Leak of the Week on the right hand column! This Download will only be available until Saturday, April 23rd, 2016.

Leilani Wolfgramm – “Adrian” – Download HERE (on The Pier homepage)

Leilani Wolfgramm’s New Single: “Adrian” Background:

Now signed with Silverback Management, Leilani has been in the studio recording with new producers working on her sophomore album, Bipolar. These producers include Sham Joseph who has produced and co-written tracks such as “Man Down” by Rihanna and “Who Gon Stop Me” by Kanye West and Jay-Z. She’s also been working with Yeti Beats and veteran Reggae producer Don Corleone.

While we wait for more details on the release of Bipolar, which is projected to drop sometime after summer, Wolfgramm decided to release her new song “Adrian” to The Pier as our MP3 Leak of the Week.

Leilani tells The Pier: “Adrian is a song I wrote when I wanted to give up. It’s a reminder to fight for what you want, even after you fail trying. As long as your heart is still beating, the flame is still lit, the fire is not out. Stay focused, believe in yourself and enjoy the struggle; it’s all part of it.”

The chorus of “Adrian” was written while in the car as a freestyle before going home to write the verse. The song would later be produced by Rome Ramirez of Sublime With Rome after meeting Rome through her longtime friend and video producer, Jay Tauzin, who produced Rome’s music video for “Terrorista.”

Leilani explains: “We started vibing at Rome’s house in SoCal and I told him I had a weird idea for a song. I played the hook for him on my guitar and he was inspired. We got to work immediately and after a bottle of jack, and a lot of weed, we finished the song in one night.”

After releasing her debut record Rebel in 2014 with E.N Young producing songs, she created multiple music videos with Tauzin, while cold-calling Hawaiian radio stations, concert promoters and was subsequently denied at every turn.

“I thought about all the times I’ve heard ‘no’ and how many times I felt like giving up and going back home to my family in Orlando,” Wolfgramm explains. “I had stopped music for years because when I was younger, I made it up to showcases and meeting with the labels; then everything was dropped. It left me feeling jaded with the industry at a young age. I played for years in Orlando, doing bar gigs. I thought about not having money and not having a car — I had to take gigs in Orlando to find a way to survive while being able to perform. Really just playing my guitar for gas money and a couple of drink tickets. I also thought about my mom and dad living in a tent in Hawaii raising my brothers. All of these things gave me strength to keep pushing.”

“Adrian” is the result of this experience with the song playing as a new anthem for embracing the struggle to persevere in your fight for success. As the lyrics say: “Fight like Rocky, watch me ‘Yo Adrian!’”

Download a FREE MP3 of “Adrian” on the homepage of by April 23rd and be on the look out for more music videos and the release of another single, “Sinner,” later this year. In the meantime, you can find the rest of Leilani Wolfgramm’s music on iTunes by clicking HERE!

Premiere: Bumpin Uglies’ “White Boy Reggae”

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on Premiere: Bumpin Uglies’ “White Boy Reggae”

Bumpin Uglies recently announced plans to drop their newest EP Better.Faster.Stronger. on May 13th, 2016. The Maryland-based trio has also decided to debut the lead track from Better.Faster.Stronger, “White Boy Reggae”, exclusively through The Pier! It’s a self-deprecating reggae rock ballad, capped off by a killer guitar solo.

Better.Faster.Stronger. promises to live up to its name by highlighting the strides Bumpin Uglies have made since they first burst on the scene in 2008. In addition to some brand new material, the EP contains fresh takes on a handful of Bumpin Uglies hits like the aforementioned “White Boy Reggae,” “Addictive Personality,” and “Morning After.” Bumping Uglies Band Pic

Better.Faster.Stronger., which was tracked, mixed, and mastered by Ryan Cullen at Annapolis Audio Lab, will serve as an appetizer for the band’s upcoming full-length, which is expected later this fall on Right Coast Records.

Bumpin Uglies are known for their brash yet relatable lyrics and for their mishmash style of reggae, ska, and punk. The band was formed back in 2008 under the leadership of singer and guitarist Brandon Hardesty. Hardesty possesses a story-telling knack like Mike Pinto and a vocal style reminiscent of Ballyhoo!’s Howi Spangler. In fact, it was Howi that designed the cover of Better.Faster.Stronger.

Of “White Boy Reggae”, Hardesty tells The Pier: “It’ll be our 3rd time releasing (the song). Acoustic release in 2012, full band in 2013.” Hardesty continues on by acknowledging that “‘Addictive Personality’ and ‘Morning After’ are both new recordings of old songs as well. That’s the idea behind the (EP) name ‘Better. Faster. Stronger.’”

Joining alongside Hardesty are Dave Wolf (bass/vocals) and TJ Haslett (drums). Beginning April 29th, 2016 fans will be able to pre-order Better.Faster.Stronger.

Due to their unmistakable sound and relentless tour schedule, the trio out of Annapolis, MD has steadily amassed fans from both the reggae and punk scenes. Bumpin Uglies have already pumped out 2 full-length LPs, a live show LP, and 2 EPs to date, with lots more coming on the horizon.

To support their upcoming EP, Bumpin Uglies is returning to the road starting May 17th, 2016. They kick off their summer tour in Indianapolis and then snake around the country for the entire summer, hitting 15 different states through 25 tour dates. Rebelution’s New Album: Falling Into Place

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on Rebelution’s New Album: Falling Into Place

Rebelution announces June 3rd as the official release date of their fifth studio album, Falling Into Place. Along with the announcement, the band treated their fans by leaking two new tracks off the record with “Upper Hand” and “Know it All.”

Recorded as a joint venture by their 87 Music label and Easy Star Records, Falling Into Place is a compilation of 11 tracks and features Protoje on the second track, “Inhale Exhale”. Front-man, Eric Rachmany states “We named the album Falling Into Place because all of our varied inspirations and experiences came together into one cohesive collection of music that we all really love.”

Rebleution has proved to be a solid unit over the last 12 years being one of the most well known modern reggae-rock bands. They first came together in 2004 while attending college in Isla Vista, where they were just a few buddies jamming together. Fast forward to 2016, and we will now witness the release of their fifth studio album, Falling Into Place.

Two of the tracks were shared last week via Billboard which can be heard below. Both songs share that classic Rebelution sound with catchy, thoughtful lyrics and strong horns. “Know it All” incorporates a funky guitar solo which I found added a lot to the song. “Upper Hand” is a catchy and it’s easy for everyone to relate to; this one has been on repeat on my own personal playlist all week!

Pre-orders for the new album will begin April 29th at Rebelution’s website.

Rebelution – Falling Into Place Track List:
Falling Into Place Cover1.) Know It All
2.) Inhale Exhale (feat. Protoje)
3.) Upper Hand
4.) Lay My Claim
5.) Pretty Lady
6.) Santa Barbara
7.) Those Days
8.) Mirage
9.) Free Up Your Mind
10.) High On Life
11.) Breakdown

Listen: Rebelution – “Know It All” + “Upper Hand”

Rebelution’s Falling Into Place Summer Tour:

If you caught Rebelution during their Winter Greens Tour, you may have also heard the opening track to the album, “Inhale Exhale” featuring Protoje. With their summer tour fast approaching, we can’t help but to anticipate hearing more of these new songs live.

[Related: Rebelution’s ‘Falling Into Place’ Summer Tour]

Rebelution will celebrate the release of the album with their Falling Into Place Summer Tour. The tour lineup is stacked with groups all covering different reggae styles. From Hawaii, acting as direct support, is The Green + J Boog. Covering your roots dub reggae is Stick Figure and Through the Roots bringing that reggae-rock. Also in the mix is DJ Mackle!

The Summer tour will include 25 total dates from their Red Rocks show in Morrison, CO on June 3rd to August 20th at Big Sky Brewery in Missoula, MT. The summer tour will reach 20 different states including 4 dates in Florida and 3 in California.

Destin Spring Break winding down

Posted in Island Enthusiasts | Comments Off on Destin Spring Break winding down

We had one last busy Spring Break week in Destin last week. It was very noticeable on Wednesday when we had some rain so everyone was off the beach and in their cars driving around. Traffic was bad the entire day. I can already tell this week will be much slower. From now till Memorial Day it will be nice in Destin then look out for the summer!

Last Tuesday Sunshine Cindy and I stopped in at Landshark Pizza for music Bingo. We have not done that in a while. It’s always a lot of fun trying to remember the old songs. While there I ate an El Diablo pizza. This is the pizza that has habanero’s, jalapeno’s, Buffalo sauce and pepperoni’s and sausage. It is HOT but it oh so good. And no, we didn’t win any of the games.

Friday night the parrot heads had a meeting at Landshark. Sunshine Cindy decided to skip it as she was planning for a weekend of yard work for us. I got there a little early and sat at the bar having some wings. Courtney was behind the bar. The big topic of conversation was a bad wreck by the Commons. Traffic on 98 was shut down both directions. One person was killed I am sorry to say. Traffic was a mess all afternoon and into the evening.

Jan and Kenny played for us at the meeting. It is always a lot of fun with those guys. We had a big crowd show up again. Some folks were talking about another wreck that happened on Hwy 20 near Freeport. This was a head on collision and another person lost their life there. It was a sad day on our area roads. After the meeting some folks headed to the Boathouse, others to the American Legion but I was a good boy and went home! lol

On Saturday Sunshine Cindy was up early and ready to go. We hit Loew’s and Home Depot for plants and supplies. Then we got home and got to work. We were at it all day. Our neighbor Guy was coming by on Sunday to pressure wash the house so we had to prepare for that too. We finally stopped working about 5:00. I was sore in places I didn’t even know I had. We were hungry and grungy so we decided to go to Landshark for a pizza. We threw on some clean clothes and off we went.

Yes, this was the third time in a few days going there. We need to buy stock in the place. But really it is comfortable and they take care of the locals. Courtney was behind the bar again we were cutting up with her. Steve and Ida came in and sat with us. Steve asked if the black Mustang in the lot was mine. He didn’t know I had gotten a new BadAss a few months ago. He loved the car. I think the four of us solved many of the world’s problems. After eating it was time to head home and relax a little.

Sunday we finished most of the yard work including putting down mulch. Guy came over and did the pressure washing for us. The house looks really good now. It was late when he finished so we didn’t get everything put back yet. That will happen this week.

Another thing we did on Sunday made us very sad. We had to cancel this year’s Phlocking of the Phaithful Trop Rock event. Registrations are way down. If we don’t hit our budgeted numbers then we are liable for the shortfall. We are so far off from what’s needed that not even the late rush of registrations would get us close to what we need to break even. We sent out the announcement and most people were understanding but there were several who didn’t. I wonder how those folks would feel if we hit them up for another $75 or $100 when they got to event because of low attendance? We all know the answer to that. Anyways we hate to cancel it but in reality many Trop Rock events are having a hard time due to so many events for folks to choose from.

I have talked in the past about how The Crust Pizzeria opened a second location in Mary Ester. This is just a few minutes from my job. I have stopped in several times for lunch including one day last week. They have a great deal of 2 slices (big slices too) and a drink for just $6. The girl running the place remembers me from coming into the Destin location. She has told me this location is doing very well. Their pizza is great and they are so friendly. I am getting some others from work going there now too.

This week we have the girls from Drop Dead Dangerous, Melanie and Kitty, back in our area. They will be at KC’s Sandbar in Ft. Walton Beach on the 13th and the 18th and they will be at Crab Island Cantina on Sunday the 17th from 1-5 pm. They put on a good show. Check them out.

Have a great week. I will have a full report next Monday!

Buffett says North Carolina Law is Stupid

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Buffett says North Carolina Law is Stupid

From ABC News: “Jimmy Buffett Slams North Carolina Law, but Won’t Cancel Shows

Jimmmy Buffett has spoken out against North Carolina’s Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, but said he will not cancel his planned performances in the state.

The singer, who has two shows scheduled in North Carolina next week, leveled some harsh criticism at the aforementioned legislation, calling it a “stupid law.”

In a message posted on his official website,, Buffett explained that he’d “played many shows years ago, in many states where you could go to prison for 20 years for smoking a joint,” maintaining that that “was a stupid law based on stupid assumptions.”

He pointed out that “time has fortunately reversed a lot of that way of thinking. But now another stupid law, based on stupid assumptions, has sprung up like kudzu in North Carolina.”

Buffett went on to say that he believes most of his fans feel the same way he does about the law, and out of loyalty to them, he intends to honor his commitment to play the two gigs — on April 21 in Raleigh and April 23 in Charlotte.

“I am lucky enough to have found a job in the business of fun. These shows were booked and sold out long before the governor signed that stupid law,” he said. “I am not going to let stupidity or bigotry trump fun for my loyal fans this year.”

As for whether he’ll play more concerts in North Carolina in the future, Buffett said it would “definitely depend on whether that stupid law is repealed. That is up to the good people of North Carolina and there are many, and I am confident that they will see that the right thing will be done. As Forrest [Gump] said, ‘Stupid is as stupid does.’”

Last week, Bruce Springsteen canceled a show in Greensboro, citing HB2 as the reason. Last night, Ryan Adams announced that he had canceled an upcoming show in Biloxi, citing a new Mississippi law that will allow religious organizations and some businesses the right to refuse service to gay couples.
