Gentleman’s Dub Club ” “ Background:

Last November, Gentleman’s Dub Club allowed us to give away the original version of “One Night Only,” featuring the UK’s Natty. The original album, The Big Smoke, dropped on November 13th, 2015 via Easy Star Records and almost a year to the date, on November 11th, the group has released a Remixed version of the record. The group teamed up with the likes of the legendary Prince Fatty (Lily Allen, Dub Syndicate, The Skints, Hollie Cook), Hungarian-born DJ Madd, Chief Rockas, and more to shed a fresh light on the material.

Leading off the 7-track EP is “One Night Only,” as Chief Rockas changes up the tone of the original mix as detailed by the Club: “Chief Rockas unravel some of the mystery of Natty’s mystical ‘One Night Only,’ switching it to a major key, and replacing the rootsy vibes of the original with a thumping half time beat. Uplifting keys, rowdy sound effects and a driving bassline definitely make this one for the DJ’s!”

Natty, known for his hit single “Bedroom Eyes,” brings a relaxed and smooth vocal delivery to a bass-heavy, percussion-friendly reggae track.

When we featured the original version of this song last year, we reached out to Natty about the song and he told us: “I knew Gentleman’s Dub Club from the touring scene and they just asked me to feature on their album. As soon as I heard the backing track, it was easy for the song to just write itself. Was a pleasure working with GDC. Effortless vibes, good live band as well. Enjoyed performing the track with them.”

Gentleman’s Dub Club bassist producer, Toby Davies best breaks it down by saying: “Natty combined with Steppas powerhouse Gentleman’s Dub Club, rolls out a sweet and heavy roots collaboration, ‘One Night Only’. Laced with GDC’s signature brand of high energy dub and Natty’s vocal mysticism and lyrical mastery, ‘One Night Only’ packs the sort of punch that whips any brand of dance into a heads down skankout. Inspiration!”

Hat’s off to Chief Rockas for revealing a different side and tone, further showing the artistic depth of a magnificent collaboration. You can pick up the new album November 11th via GDC’s website by clicking HERE!
