Review of the Belly Up show

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Review of the Belly Up show

The San Diego Union Tribune has a review of Tuesday’s show: “Jimmy Buffett plays surprise Belly Up concert — six things of note

“I don’t know what tour this is,” Jimmy Buffett said after he walked on stage Tuesday night at the Belly Up Tavern with his band, the Coral Reefers. “But we’re starting here.”

With his new theatrical work, the Broadway-bound “Escape to Margaritaville — The Musical,” set to begin previews May 9 at La Jolla Playhouse, Buffett may well become a temporary fixture here. (It opens May 29 and runs through June 18, although an extension is possible if “Escape” fares as well at the box office as Buffett and playhouse honchos hope it will.)

Announced last Wednesday, barely two hours before it went on sale, his Tuesday night Belly Up show sold out in less than a minute.

That was great news for the lucky 600 fans who were able to score tickets for the all-general-admission show, but not for the approximately 7,000 others who tried — and failed.

Here’s what they missed.

1. A long, long wait to get in

2. A 19-song performance that clocked in at 95 minutes

It opened with “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” and concluded with a spirited romp through Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.” Some of the highlights included the bluegrass-tinged versions of Buffett’s “Gypsies in the Palace” and the Eagles’ “Take It Easy,” the mass audience sing-along on Crosby, Stills Nash’s “Southern Cross” and Buffett’s amusingly literal physical interpretations of the lyrics to his perpetually sizzling rave-up, “Cheeseburger in Paradise” … He also performed “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” and “Come Monday”.

3. A disappointment …there was no encore Tuesday.

4. A preview, of sorts, of “Escape to Margaritaville — The Musical”

5. A pre-tour warm-up show … Buffett and his ace band knocked the rust off and got their music lubricated again.

6. Cleanup on aisle 1 … The Belly Up on Tuesday had the stickiest bar floor this writer has encountered.

It’s Not Dead Fest. 2 Has Been Confirmed!

Posted in Reggae Roots Music | Comments Off on It’s Not Dead Fest. 2 Has Been Confirmed!

Following the October 2015 Inaugural event, It’s Not Dead Fest is returning this August headlined by Rancid and Dropkick Murphys. The Pier was in attendance for the first event and we have our calendar marked Saturday, August 26th for the Punk Rock Festivals return!

Vans Warped Tour It’s Not Dead founder Kevin Lyman says, “Ever since the first It’s Not Dead people have told me how much fun they had. So when Rancid and The Dropkick Murphys reached out, I said, Let’s do it again!”

That’s not a bad way to start a festival and from there the lineup grew into what we’re celebrating below. The Lineup:
RancidItsNotDead2_admat_03-13-17_OSM
Dropkick Murphys
Buck-O-Nine
Buzzcocks
The Casualties
Channel 3
Down By Law
The Exploited
The Flatliners
GBH
Good Riddance
The Grim
Guttermouth
The Interrupters
Kevin Seconds
Left Alone
Love Canal
Mad Caddies
Madcap
Murphy’s Law
Off!
Reagan Youth
Rehab Bob
Runaway Kids
The Selecter
Skating Polly
Slaughter and the Dogs
The Toasters
Toxic Energy
True Rivals
The Unseen
U.S. Bombs
Voodoo Glow Skulls
A Wilhelm Scream
Wraths
and more to be announced…..

Some of the stand-outs on this line-up, for me personally and aside from the headliners, would be The Flatiners as they have a new album, Inviting Light, dropping April 7th, 2017. I’m also really excited to see the addition of The Interrupters along with longtime nods to The Toasters, Mad Caddies, Voo-Doo Glow Skulls (how awesome is that name?) and Buck-O-Nine.

Additionally and per the press release — Making their return to the festival are the pop-up art exhibition ‘Art’s Not Dead’ and the ‘Punks Well Read’ book signing and literary area, both curated by renowned punk rock photographer Lisa Johnson. Additionally, there will also be a ‘Punk Swap’ zone of unique and artisan finds under the big circus tent.

The art show will exhibit and sell works from many of the underground scene’s most acclaimed artists and photographers, while the book signings will highlight many of the punk world’s best authors.

The festival will be taking place on August 26th, 2017 at the Glen Helen Amphitheater Festival Grounds in San Bernadino, CA. Doors open at 12:00pm. Tickets start at $42.50 and you can explore all of your options and make your ticket-purchase by clicking HERE! Kids 10 and under will once again be admitted free with a paid adult.

—————————————————–

The first It’s Not Dead Fest took place Oct. 10th, 2015 with headliners Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise The Descendents. They had a rotating stage of non-stop punk-rock music that kept the dust up till the lights went out. What made last year so much fun was, aside from the 3 stages of non-stop music, was the Big Stage’s spin-wheel with a list of the line-up and whichever band the needle landed on, choose the next band to go up on stage. Last year, the final band to perform ended up being Pennywise. Read about last year’s festival as written by Blake Taylor by clicking HERE!

Paining the Jeep again

Posted in Jeep Wranglers | Comments Off on Paining the Jeep again

Isn’t Duplicolor a spray can paint??
I’ve not heard of Vansicle.
Plasti Dip isn’t a paint.

I had my Jeep painted with top of the line Sherwin Williams Urethane Enamel 4 years ago and it still looks like new. I just installed full steel doors and they were painted by the same painter with the same brand and quality paint. You can’t tell the difference between the new doors and the 4 year old paint on the tub.

I happen to be blessed with the resources to be able to afford one luxury and making my Jeep into something that will be attractive and reliable is the luxury I choose to have.
I try to buy the best that I can afford.

If The SW urethane enamel is too rich for your budget, Martin Senor paint from NAPA is made by Sherwin Williams and they have an economy enamel that should hold up longer than two years.

Have you tried rubbing compound to bring back the gloss, or is the paint still shiny but loosing pigment?

Good Luck, L.M.

wrecked jeep tj

I have a 99 Jeep TJ Sport that was rolled a few months ago. I was hit in the drivers rear tire and flipped onto the roof. It has 60K miles on original 4.0L motor, tranny, and transfer case. I put about $4K in recent upgrades. It has an Old Man Emu lift and 33×10 BFG all terrains with less than 1,000 miles on them. The axles are the Dana 35 and 30 that was re-geared by Screaming Lizzard with 4.11 yukons. The front bumper is a Best Top high rock and the rear bumper and tire carrier is a Barriacade. The winch is a smittybuild 9500.

I am not parting this out and price is firm.
