Buffett to appear on Kenny Chesney’s new album

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Buffett to appear on Kenny Chesney’s new album

From ABC: “Jimmy Buffett, Ziggy Marley and more lend their voices to Kenny Chesney’s “Songs for the Saints

Jimmy Buffett recreates his 1974 classic, “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season,” on Kenny Chesney’s new album, Songs for the Saints. It’s a fitting choice, since Kenny wrote and recorded the project after Hurricane Irma devastated his home-away-from-home, the Virgin Islands. The superstar from East Tennessee will also donate all the money he makes from the album to recovery efforts.

The legendary “Margaritaville” singer is just one of several high-profile guests on Kenny’s new album, including reggae legend Ziggy Marley and Americana star Mindy Smith.

“Each one of them has a tie to my life in the islands, but also reflect some piece of what we’re trying to do,” Kenny explains. “Ziggy Marley, and his family’s legacy, holds so much truth for all of the people I know down there. Mindy Smith’s Come To Jesus was an album I lived with from morning to night when I was first going down there — and her voice sounds like an angel.”

“And Jimmy,” he adds, “more than the lost shaker of salt, understands the poetry of the islands beyond what tourists see — the life — in a way that made a song written decades ago so current. I’m honored they also want to help.”

Songs for the Saints was recorded mainly in Nashville and mixed in Key West, Florida.

Margaritaville Resort coming to Fort Myers Beach

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Margaritaville Resort coming to Fort Myers Beach

From News-Press: “Fort Myers Beach resort teams up with Jimmy Buffett-inspired Margaritaville brand

It’s official: Margaritaville is coming to Fort Myers Beach.

That’s Margaritaville Resort, the Jimmy Buffett-inspired name that TPI Hospitality Chairman Tom Torgerson announced this morning for his planned 254-room resort to be built near the Times Square dining, shopping and entertainment district.

It comes via a partnership with Margaritaville Holdings, the global lifestyle brand that plays off the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Buffett, whose songs celebrate tropical escapes and relaxation.

The beach resort is scheduled to begin construction in December, and open in early 2021.

No word yet on whether Buffett is likely to ever stroll over, looking for that lost shaker of salt. But an appearance is possible. On Florida’s east coast, Buffett surprised guests of the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort with a concert in November of 2015.

The resort will serve up several Margaritaville food and beverage concepts, including a LandShark Beach Club with a 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar Grill, a beachside LandShark Bar Grill, a Coconut Telegraph Coffee Shop on the pedestrian bridge over Estero Boulevard and a JWB Bar and Grill on the second level.

The Margaritaville brand is featured at more than 12 lodgings locations and more than 20 additional projects in the pipeline, more than 60 food-and-beverage venues and four gaming properties.

Compass by Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Compass by Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts

From Hotel News Now: “Margaritaville targets new guests with Compass brand

Margaritaville Holdings is blending an upscale lifestyle concept with a select-service business model for what its executives hope will be a concoction that developers and consumers consume with gusto.

The Compass by Margaritaville Hotels Resorts brand, which was officially launched during the 40th annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, will give the company another unique outlet to market the Jimmy Buffett-inspired line of products, according to executives.

“It’s all about escapism—this is boutique, and it’s also select service,” said Rick Cunningham, VP of hotel development. “Consumers told us (select-service brands) are all starting to look the same. We want to make sure Compass reflects a fun, light, airy feeling … a feeling like you’re at a friend’s house.”

The hotel industry’s shift to experiential and lifestyle products is right in Compass’ wheelhouse, according to Jim Wiseman, president of Margaritaville Development. “That’s why this is going to be successful—we already have a lifestyle,” he said.

The company spent a year conducting research on consumers and developers to determine the direction it wanted to go with the concept.

“(What) we realized was that people love Margaritaville, and they love the DNA,” Cunningham said. “They want more locations.”

The prototypical Compass property will be a distinctive five story, 131-room, 83,000-interior-square-foot building sitting on approximately three acres of land, according to a company news release.

Hallmarks for Compass properties include a welcome center, an open living lounge, a branded indoor/outdoor food-and-beverage outlet and a backyard, the executives said. Each property will include a signature Margaritaville-designed bar and grill concept—most often the “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere” brand, but possibly others, Cunningham said.

The first Compass is being developed by Floridays Development Company on Anna Maria Sound, Florida.

The company is in the process of adding a reservations system and a customer relationship management system—those should be in place by the end of the year, Wiseman said, adding that 65% of Margaritaville’s bookings are through its website. There is no official loyalty program, but Margaritaville rewards it loyal guests with things such as concert tickets, Wiseman said.

Margaritaville Hotels Resorts currently has 12 lodging locations in its portfolio, with more than 20 additional projects in the pipeline.

Jimmy Buffett talks about the Margaritaville Brand and Footwear

Posted in Jimmy Buffett News | Comments Off on Jimmy Buffett talks about the Margaritaville Brand and Footwear

From Footwear News: “How to Build a Multibillion-Dollar Brand, According to Jimmy Buffett

You won’t find Margaritaville on any map, but it is taking over the globe.

A little over 40 years ago, singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett released his hit album “Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes,” featuring a catchy tune about wasting away in a tropical locale. In the ensuing decades, the pop song has been transformed into a roughly $2.5 billion licensing and hospitality operation.

Margaritaville Holdings encompasses everything from restaurants and hotels to apparel and shoes. Here in New York, it debuted a Broadway musical in January — “Escape to Margaritaville” — and a Times Square hotel is in the works for 2020.

Buffett is deeply invested in all these endeavors. When FN visited him in the green room at the show in April, Buffett was peering out the window watching the lines outside. And he made a point of mentioning that the cast wears his Margaritaville footwear onstage.

For fall ’18, the company is further boosting its shoe selection with a new label called Island Reserve. It will be a higher-end complement to the Margaritaville collection, which is stocked at major chains such as Famous Footwear and DSW, and sells for under $60.

How would you describe the Jimmy Buffett brand?
“It’s authentic because I lived this way for a long time. I went where it was cold to work when I had
to, but I would prefer to stay where it’s warm. And when I found Key West, I had a job singing in bars and working on fishing boats. And at that time, I thought it was pretty cool to do that.”

Have you enjoyed being in the theater business?
“It’s been a wonderful experience with a joyous cast. When I first started my band, we wanted to take people to a place where they could forget about stuff, and it’s the same thing with ‘Escape to Margaritaville.’ But there are some fun-police in New York that think we don’t belong there, but we’re doing just fine. People love the show. They go there and have a great time, and so to hell with The New York Times.”

What do you hope your legacy will be?
“I like to think I’ve made the world a little happier than it was before I got here. I’m not looking for awards and personal gain more than what I’ve already got. There’s an old French saying, ‘noblesse oblige,’ which means if you’re lucky enough to have this, then you help other people get there. I want to teach and I want to help kids who need financial aid getting into school – education is the thing that gets you places.
