Welcome back to another episode of the Gulf Coast Cowboy! This episode is all about sailing (no, not the Christopher Cross song), I’m talking about being out on the water without a care in the world.

We’re also happy to hear that Sunny Jim has been voted the Troprock Music Association’s “Entertainer of the Year” and “Male Vocalist” 2013! Sunny Jim is an 8-time Trop Rock Music Association award winner. He has been recognized as Male Vocalist of the Year each year from 2008 – 2013. In 2010 and 2012 he was honored as Musician of the Year, and his CD KISS was selected as Troprock CD of the year in 2011. Congrats, Sunny Jim!

There’s nothing like getting out on the water and letting the wind take you wherever it is you’re going. You’ve really gotta try it, if you haven’t. This week, sailing has been on my mind a lot. It’s getting colder here, and there’s really nothing I’d rather be doing than enjoying the sun right about now. Oh well, soon I will be! On to the music! Up first is “Soul of a Sailor” by Kenny Chesney. I feel him when he sings “I was born a son of the sea”. Preach it, Kenny. Up next is “So He Sails” by Eric Stone and then “Beer Drinkers & Sail Raisers” by Hanna’s Reef. That last one reminds me of myself a little bit. David Gray is up next with “Sail Away”, then Billy Mitchell with “Float Away”. With all this talk of sailing away and floating away, I think I might just book my trip to Key West a little earlier this year. The one and only, Jimmy Buffett is up next with “Son of a Son of a Sailor” followed by Kelly McGuire with “Sailing Away From the Madness”. Away from the madness sounds pretty good right about now. Anyone have a sailboat I could borrow for a few? “Sailing to Road Town” by Steve Tolliver is up next, followed by the Gainesville, FL-based Sister Hazel with “Sail Away”. Award nominated Texas singer/songwriter Dennis Davis is up next with his fantastic song “Tropic of Texas”. Up next is “Sandbar Serenade” from the Troprock Music Association’s “Entertainer of the Year”, Sunny Jim! Bringing this episode to a close is another Texas trop rocker, Gary James Moeller, with “Texas Island Style”.

We’ve got a great show for you on this Halloween week! It’s all about paying homage to the songwriters this week. Up first, we’ve got The Barefoot Man with his tropical version of a classic, “It’s A Moray”. Following him, it’s Brent Burns and Robert Earl Keen with “Livin’ The Life (Only Jimmy Buffett Wrote About)” & “Corpus Christi Bay”. If you haven’t already gotten tickets to see him, Robert Earl Keen will be playing at the Bass Performance Hall on December 28. Up next, out of St. Louis, MO, is PHINS with “Songs You Know By Heart”. Then the first of 2 from John Reno & the Half-Fast Creekers with “I Lobster But I Never Flounder”. A legendary songwriter is up next, Waylon Jennings with “Jambalaya (On the Bayou)”. I can smell it now! I’d love to have some of that jambalaya in front of me. “JB Song” by Sonny Russell & the Tropics is up next, followed by “Walkin’ Around (The Border of the Quarter)” by Todd Sparks. Then, of course, one of my personal favorite songwriters of all time, Jimmy Buffett, with “Gentleman of Leisure”. Up next, a song that very closely resembles the name of this program, “Coastal Cowboy” by John Friday, followed by “Port ‘A’ Saturday Night” sung by Jerry Diaz & Hanna’s Reef. Playing us out, we’ve got a very well known singer/songwriter followed by the 2nd of a pair. Jerry Jeff Walker sings “Cowboy Boots & Bathin’ Suits”, then to end the show it’s “Magic Chair” by John Reno & the Half-Fast Creekers. That’s all for this week! Be sure to pay your own tribute to some of your favorite songwriters. Visit our Facebook page and let us know how you celebrated!
