Artist Background:
Straight out of Orlando, FL, Kash’d Out was formed by guitarist Jackson Hauserman and producers Greg Shields Josh Saldate of Sound Lounge Studios. Sound Lounge was a recording home to bands such as Ballyhoo!, Tribal Seeds and many more. Once their self-titled debut EP was complete, Kash’d Out recruited Joey Brohawn on Bass, Marshall Hearne on drums and Nick Gudzan on keys. Now, with the line-up complete, the band hit the studio to record tracks for their second record. Fast forward to 2017, Kash’d Out, and their new full-length album aptly named The Hookup drops May 26th on LAW Records.

Album Review:
One of the cliche and obvious things you’ll notice right off the bat with this record is that it’s white-boy, bubblegum reggae, through and through. Anchored by front-man Greg Shields overseeing the production, you also have a quality, fun and enjoyable sounding record, through and through. Greg’s no stranger to producing reggae music, but what struck me the most about the album were the unique, catchy melodies and vocal delivers found on each song.

Most of the songs are poppy, fun and upbeat, but nothing that feels too repetitive. For the poppier tracks, I imagine early 2000’s teen-age pop-punk vocals being placed over modern day reggae-rock. With a smile, that’s what comes to my mind when I hear some of these songs, such as “New Love,” “Closer,” “She Gets Around,” and “I’m Gone.” They bring out those adolescent feelings of enjoying the poppy chick-flick tracks as a guilty pleasure, and in this case, I don’t mind indulging.

Most of the aforementioned songs could easily be re-worked as pop-punk and sound just as fun. Granted there’s very little distortion or anything reminiscent of pop-punk, just the tone I get from the delivery of the vocals over several songs. Makes me want to see what this group can do by incorporating more ska and rock! You will hear the occasional DJ scratching over some tracks as heard on “Being Easy,” and “Closer” — takes me back to the early 2000 reggae-rock days where DJ’s were more present in bands.

The albums stand-out tracks would have to be “The Dream,” “So Blessed.” and “Baby Don’t Go.” The latter has the albums best start-to-finish production in my opinion. I love how they occasionally drop the beat out of the hook before bringing it back to drive home with the spirit of the song’s sentiment in pleading to his love not to go. I really enjoy the finger-plucking bass during pockets of the track when the beat drops out. “So Blessed” is another song that’s a great first impression to hook new listeners and I love the vocal delivery on “The Dream” and the hook reminds me of Iration.

In some ways, their sound is similar to The Holdup, and you’ll hear a bit of Ballyhoo!, but ultimately, Kash’d Out has their own unique sound that is best described as fun. You can put the record on at any party around water or at the park; it’ll help road-trips go by faster and it’s a likable choice for work-outs or doing chores around the house. In the company of those not familiar, I’d be surprised if their music didn’t warrant a “Who’s this?” from the less-informed.

I could see some eye-rolls with a song like “Yes I” as it is funny to hear white-boys shouting Jamaican patois in the whitest possible voice over a poppy reggae track about having weed — That aside, it’s still a fun song and another guilty pleasure I don’t mind indulging in. Depending on your threshold for poppy/upbeat music with an adolescent vocal tone will depend on how much of the record you can tolerate, but you can otherwise get through it with enjoyment. It’s nothing originally ground-breaking or earth-shattering, but again, its a fun a start-to-finish album should you want something positively upbeat for a fun time.

Ocean Beac, CA natives Slightly Stoopid further cement themselves into their own legacy within reggae-rock with each passing year. In just a few short weeks, they will be embarking on their 11th annual summer tour across a selection of amphitheaters and pavilion stages. This isn’t just another tour however, as they will be bringing along Iration, J Boog and The Movement for “The Sounds of Summer 2017.”

It comes as no surprise at this point in their musical career that Slightly Stoopid is a household name. For over two decades, they have been curating chart-topping albums and providing memorable live performances with every show. Co-founders Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald remain at the helm alongside Rymo, OG, Dela, Paul, Andy and Karl Denson and sound as good as ever -– their latest release Meanwhile…Back at the Lab peaked at No. 37 on the US Billboard 200 upon its release in 2015, as well as No. 3 overall on the US Independent Albums Chart when dropped via Stoopid Records. With no signs of slowing down and to the delight of fans across the nation, Slightly Stoopid recently announced they will be performing 27 new shows across 19 states for their Sounds of Summer Tour.
SoundsofSummer2017
Miles Doughty recently shared his overall excitement for the upcoming tour as well:
“It’s gonna be a summer of madness when we the hit the road with our boys Iration, J Boog, and The Movement for the Sounds of Summer 2017 tour. Smokestacks and sunshine while spending the summer jamming, BBQ-ing, and hanging with friends. Doesn’t get much better than that!”

Iration will also be hotting up the stage all summer and are continuing the support of their latest record Double Up, an acoustic album released in December 2016 comprised of various songs in their catalog. Iration has also been touring throughout 2017 and recently appeared once more on Callaway Golf’s “Callaway Live” for a special live performance. Front-man Micah Pueschel elaborated on the album and stated that “We took songs from our whole catalog of music and stripped them back and gave them an alternate life. We thought about a wave doubling up and the fact that it’s another version of the same entity. That’s what Double Up is, another version of these songs.”

Joining Slightly Stoopid and Iration will be the Compton-based, Samoan J Boog, who has been gracing stages with his presence for years while offering his unique reggae-world style and fusion of RB, hip-hop and soul music. J Boog also continues to promote his latest release and third full-length album Wash House Ting released in November 2016 with 14 tracks featuring Buju Banton, Gramps Morgan (Morgan Heritage), Chaka Demus and several other guest collaborations.

Also setting sail on the Sounds of Summer Tour will be The Movement, bringing their multifaceted infusion of various genres complimenting their overarching reggae sound. The band is also celebrating a recent release with the album Golden receiving well-deserved accolades from critics and fans alike. The record hit #1 on the 2016 iTunes and Billboard Reggae Charts. The Movement also announced that a new album is in the works –- be sure to check back soon for additional details and an ear out for new material being performed live.

You don’t need to be a Wiseman, a Prophet or really even a smart person in general to realize how epic this lineup is. There are plenty of stops on The Sounds of Summer Tour, so it’s likely the party will be stopping near your city. You can find a full list of dates below…

Celebrating 40 Years of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Exodus

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Bob Marley The Wailers‘ iconic 1977 album Exodus, the Marley family has prepared 4 separate reissues to release this June. On June 2nd, 2017 the Ziggy Marley-curated “restatement” Exodus 40 – The Movement Continues, a gold-colored vinyl of the original release and a live album version will all be available. Then on June 30th, 2017, a loaded 4-LP Super Deluxe version of Exodus will drop for the serious collector.

Bob Marley The Wailers released Exodus on June 3, 1977, and to this day it remains one of the most beloved albums in music history. In 1999, Time magazine went as far as to name Exodus2017Exodus the “Best Album of the 20th Century.” Exodus, the group’s ninth studio album, was recorded in London, England and released through Island Records. The album featured a new backing band, consisting of brothers Carlton Barrett (drums) and Aston “Family Man” Barrett (bass), Tyrone Downie (keyboard), and Alvin “Seeco” Patterson (percussion). Backing vocals were provided by Bob’s wife Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt, known together as the I Threes.

Ziggy Marley crafted Exodus 40 – The Movement Continues by revisiting the original sessions, finding unused and never-before-heard vocals, lyric phrasing and instrumentation. Ziggy incorporated these elements into brand-new session takes for the “restatement” album. His aim was to put the songs in a brand-new context, all the while maintaining “the utmost respect for his father’s music and message.”

There will be a number of combinations of Exodus special packages available beginning June 2nd. These include a two-CD package with the original album and the Ziggy Marley “restatement,” as well as a three-CD set which comes with the original, the “restatement,” and Exodus Live, a live recording from London’s Rainbow Theatre the week of the initial release. A limited-edition gold vinyl version will also be available, in addition to a Super Deluxe, four-LP, two-7” single vinyl version, which is scheduled to drop on June 30th.

Ziggy Marley begins a summer tour on June 12th, 2017 in San Diego, CA. On tour he is expected to mix in a number of songs from Exodus with his own impressive catalog of music. To pre-order or to find out more information on all of these impressive reissues from the Marley camp, be sure to check out the links below.

Sublime with Rome & The Offspring Summer 2017 Tour

Nothing screams the ’90’s like the sound of Sublime or The Offspring. Both bands produced music so timeless we have to remind ourselves when it was released and if you’re over the age of 30, both bands were likely a big part of your teenage sound-track. This summer, The Offspring will be touring with Sublime with Rome as they look to bring back the nostalgic sound of the ’90’s youth.

With The Offspring hailing from Huntington Beach and Sublime’s roots stemming from Long Beach, CA, both bands were responsible for top-charting singles, albums, along with 2 completely influential sounds that somehow work beautifully together being played after each-other on the radio or on stage in a live setting — This is a big southern, CA sound that will be hitting the road.

Addressing the elephant in the room, this wont be the same Sublime you heard in the ’90’s with Sublime with Rome on stage as Rome Ramirez brings his own unique take on vocals/guitar with his tribute to the late Brad Nowell. Sublime bassist SwR_OffspringEric Wilson will be seen on stage next to a new face with new Sublime with Rome drummer, Carlos Verdugo. Verdugo was previously the longtime drummer for Tribal Seeds as he joins SwR in 2017 replacing Josh Frees and original Sublime/SwR drummer, Bud Gaugh.

The Offspring sound as good as ever with vocalist/guitarist Dexter Holland, guitarist Noodles, Greg K on bass and Pete Parada on drums. Their 1994 release Smash remains the highest-selling album of all-time on an independent label and the release of Americana in 1998 still has folks talkin’ about being Pretty Fly (For a White Guy). Additionally, this summer will prove to be a celebration of sorts as Dexter Holland graduated from the University of Southern California with a doctorate in molecular biology this May. He’s placing his focus on HIV and immunodeficiency viruses.

“My research is not meant to be a cure or even an immediate step toward a cure, but I believe that by adding to the vast amount of information that we’ve learned about HIV in the last 30 years or so, we’ll get there,” shares Holland. “Toward that end, I’m going to continue to do research, and you’ll probably see some of my research papers get published here and there over the next few years.”

How cool is that? And it makes the upcoming tour all the much more exciting as it will take place in two parts with the first taking place July 6th in Airway Heights, WA before crossing the border for seven Canadian dates, wrapping up on July 15th in London, ON at the Rock the Park Music Festival — The second part of the tour will start back up again on Sept. 8th in Chicago, IL., before concluding on Sept. 30th in Salt Lake City, UT.

While fans will hear classic tracks from both The Offspring and Sublime with Rome, look to hear more modern day original tracks from Sublime with Rome as they’re still promoting their sophomore record, the 2015 release of Sirens. SwR is known to typically mix in some modern day originals from each of their first albums, along with classic Sublime hits you can’t help but sing-a-long to. — You’ll find out if you grab a ticket for a date this summer.

Twiddle-Plump-1-2

Twiddle “Moments” Background:

Buoyed by the generous support of 359 Kickstarter donors, the 27-song album does more than showcase the group’s beautiful music, but also tells an important story, comprised in LUMP Chapters 1 .

Recorded during a two-year span with legendary producer Ron St. Germain, LUM serves as a reflection of four brothers’ triumphs and struggles, both individual and as a whole. On Chapter 1, songs like “Lost in the Cold” and “Every Soul” detail what it’s like to hit rock bottom and how to rise back up.
“So many fans have shared how these songs carried them through very difficult times, and that alone makes this all worth it,” said Brook Jordan, Twiddle’s percussionist and vocalist.

Comparatively, Chapter 2 contains genre-bending instrumentals, as well as mystifying epics like “Nicodemus Portulay” and “Orlando’s.” More than ten years later, these songs mirror the earliest Twiddle arrangements of 2004-2005 when Mihali Savoulidis and Ryan Dempsey were collaborating in their freshmen dorms at Castleton State College. The completion of LUM is timely, coming at a moment when the band’s fervent fan base is at an all-time high and expanding rapidly.

Interview & Song Premiere: KBong – “Good Lovin’”

Widely known as the exuberant, bright and always smiling keyboardist and contributing vocalist of Stick Figure, Kevin “KBong” Bong has been hard at work on his follow-up effort to the 2014 release of Hopes and Dreams. The Pier was able to catch up with KBong in addition to premiering his new track “Good Lovin” from his forthcoming album…

Hawaiian and San Diego native KBong has been putting “Smiles on Faces,” without fail, for years. His upbeat, lively and energetic mood becomes immediately infectious when fans are able to catch his own live show or rock out for the night with Stick Figure. His debut full-length album, Hopes and Dreams, was greeted with a warm reception by many and featured collaborations with Hirie, Alific and Stick Figure.

In addition to a relentless touring schedule with Stick Figure, KBong hosted his own radio show — On the Rise Show with SoulShine KBong. Momentum has never been stronger, and KBong has recently announced that he is finalizing his second full-length album to include the new single “Good Lovin” — which The Pier is proud to premiere!

Song Premiere: KBong – “Good Lovin’”

“Good Lovin” is a strong debut for the forthcoming album and gels perfectly with the quintessential KBong style, derived from influences such as Bob Marley, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson to portray an upbeat, sing-a-long, cheerful track for all to enjoy. The song was produced by Johnny Cosmic and features the horn players Chris and Andrew from Hirie.

We had the opportunity to catch up with KBong as he was able to shed some additional light on the track and his forthcoming album.

Interview: KBong

The Pier: Congrats again on Hopes and Dreams and all of its success! Regarding the new album, do you have a title and an anticipated release date? How many tracks will be on the new album?
KBong: It’s definitely still in the works. It’s going to be released this year in 2017 –- I know that for sure. I’ve been toying with titles a little bit here and there, still tweaking some ideas but I’m excited for the record! We’ve got 12 songs, and I feel like it’s the perfect follow-up to Hopes and Dreams as far as song writing and production goes, so I’m excited for it.

The Pier: Hopes and Dreams featured a few collaborations with Stick Figure on “Livin’ Easy” and HIRIE on “Opportunity” -– Can we expect additional collaborations to be featured on the new record as well?
KBong: Yes! And I’m really excited for it. We’ve got Raging Fyah on a track, The Movement on a track, of course Stick Figure will be featured on a track and then Johnny Cosmic will be featured on a track. Johnny Cosmic is the guy I’ve been producing it with and the most recent, newest member of Stick Figure.

KBong
The Pier: What was the overall writing process for the new record? The song “In the Mood” from your first album was written while you were hiking in Hawaii -– were there any specific moments that served as inspiration for the new tracks?
KBong: Yes –- the original idea for the album was about awakening. But it’s about moving on to the next chapter of our lives, and for me it was the next chapter of KBong music as far as putting out something that I’ve written. It was the next chapter of things that were happening around me in my life like getting to a new level with Stick Figure, and hitting this crazy platform of success. We had jumped sort of to another level with amphitheater tours, the “Set in Stone Tour” which featured a lot of sold out shows. So I was feeling that, I recently met a girl who I’m in love with now –- so it’s like that, the girl, Stick Figure’s level and me just writing about all these experiences kind of put me into this next chapter, you know? So a lot of songs, you’ll kind of hear about that. A lot of the themes are about love, experiencing the next chapter of what we’ve done with Stick Figure and what it’s like to be on tour and experiences on the road -– it’s a culmination of the last three or four years.

The Pier: Regarding the new track “Good Lovin” -– its upbeat, lively and a lot of fun! How long was that song specifically in the works and what was the overall messaging behind the track?
KBong: Yeah — “Good Lovin” is definitely a feel-good track, and you can hear that in the track. It’s about celebrating love between family and friends, nature, the experience of life and the blessing that this life is. So that idea kind of came out in the song. It’s fun, its catchy, the very first verse of the song was actually backstage at a Stick Figure concert in Los Angeles. My friend showed me this thing he was working on, it was actually Alific, who I’ve worked with on the previous record. So he was kind of showing me some new stuff, and I started free-styling the Good / Good Lovin’ chorus and took my iPhone memo out and recorded that, it was sort of an idea for a while. And then why I presented it to Johnny Cosmic as we were working on this next record. He was drawn to that and said we should move forward on that and see what we can come up with, which turned into the current sound it is right now. The horn section for “Good Lovin” is the guys from HIRIE -– Chris Hampton and Andrew McKee. It was really cool to hear their addition on it as well.

The Pier: How involved was the rest of Stick Figure in the creating/recording process of the new record? Also – when you are writing the new material do you ever differentiate between what will go on your album or present new material as potential tracks for future Stick Figure releases?
KBong LiveKBong: Yeah definitely, it’s a little bit of everything. We all collaborate as much as we can. A lot of the collaborations since we’ve started touring together is a lot of live transitions. Our main focus is collaboration but that’s also moved into helping Scott into any way we can with production. As far as my record goes – this record was pretty much written and produced on tour. It was a very fun process, because we had to get really creative on where to record. There were some nights where we were recording in the back of the tour bus, some nights we were recording in a continental breakfast room in a hotel, sometimes it was a hotel room. A lot of the times we’d have a couple days off and I would just go up to the hotel and say like hey, we’re staying here, we’re working on a record from the road, we’re not going to make much noise –- is there any place we could do that? A lot of the places would actually bring us to a conference room in the hotel or a meeting room. So Johnny Cosmic and I produced this record, mobile on his laptop setup and from the road, which led to collaborations with artists like The Movement as we were on tour with them last year, Raging Fyah we were on tour with them last year. So it was a great experience.

The Pier: Is Stick Figure working on any new material as well and can new music be expected soon?
KBong: Always! Definitely – especially with acquisition of the new studio space in Oakland, it’s made for a lot of progress already and hitting the ground running. Not even near a projected date or anything like that yet, but what I’ve heard so far is amazing! So when it hits, it’s going to be great.

The Pier: We saw that you’ve recently had the opportunity to play a few shows, most recently the Lake Worth Reggae Fest – are there going to be any instances this Summer where perhaps you would play a solo set opening for Stick Figure to perform and promote more of your new material?
KBong: That will probably happen sporadically, we’re working on some dates. We’re kind of getting those put into fruition as soon as we can and as they come. My main focus right now is getting this record out and getting it into the listener’s hands. I’m really proud of it, I’m really excited for it. The GoodLovin_KBongpeople that were adding on to it and collaborated on it, whether it was vocals, a drum beat or a bass-line, everyone was really talented that was a part of this. It’s going to be great to see it come out.

The Pier: Did you have a chance to premiere “Good Lovin” at Lake Worth Reggae Fest or other recent shows as part of the setlist?
KBong: Yeah we did! It had a good response, I’ve played that song a couple times now. Because like you said the upbeat, the catchy chorus – by the end people were singing along! And I’m like this song isn’t even available yet! So it was pretty cool that they were able to catch on that real quickly and sing along.

Thanks so much for the time, KBong! Again, enjoy the premiere of his new single “Good Lovin’” and we’ll bring you more information on his forthcoming album as soon as it’s made available to us. You can catch KBong on tour with his band Stick Figure where you can find upcoming dates below.

Mystic Roots

Mystic Roots “Marie” Background:

I first discovered Mystic Roots when I was a youngster, illegally downloading music from Napster — Yes, Napster kids! Back in Napster’s hay-day was when I came across the song “DJ Inna Dance” and immediately loved what I would later discover in the first album with the 1998 release of Constant Struggle.

The band has come a long way since then and with the release of their new album Change, that was mixed by E.N Young at Imperial Sound Recording Studio and subsequently released via his label at Roots Musician Records. The album includes 15 total tracks of dancehall, hip-hop, rock and pop under an influential umbrella of reggae.

The albums leading single, “Marie,” has been making the media rounds as a fan favorite from the new record and we’re no exception as we’re excited to feature the song as our Leak of the Week!

The Romain Virgo inspired track is an ode to the loving relationship between Marijuana and fans as vocalist Coot Dog tells The Pier: “Romain Virgo had a freestyle on a mix-tape where he was singing about being in love with ‘Marie.’ We loved it so much, we thought it would be cool to write the ‘answer’ track to that freestyle. Katherine taking the role of Marie singing back to the smoker. My verse was basically saying I’m taking Romain’s girl, snagging the joint so to speak. We’re hoping to do a remix where we get Romain on the track!”

Directed by Jae Synth, the band released a music video for the single that you can enjoy below. You can purchase Mystic Roots new album Change by clicking HERE!

Mystic Roots Background:

As outlined by our Brian Glaser, categorizing or branding Mystic Roots Band in one way or another is a tall order; comparisons and influences have often been stated to include No Doubt, Sublime and Black Eyed Peas. Each member of the band contributes vocals in some fashion which leads to some epic harmonious tones in a bulk of their music –- led by the versatile Katherine Ramirez (who was also featured in Season 7 of American Idol).

The band dropped their first record, Constant Struggle, in 1998 and spent the following years evolving with the times as the industry transitioned into more of a digital platform. Over that time, the band would later re-package the album as they moved from Chico, CA to San Diego, CA. There, they continued to promote Constant Struggle as they played local gigs and toured relentlessly, eventually catching the eye and ear of Pato Banton, whom they supported for a number of years on the road.

Now with a line-up featuring more female-lead vocals, the one constant of the band is the groups founder vocalist in cootdog who is joined by vocalist Katherine Ramirez, Rabbit on bass/vocals, Marko rockin’ drums/vocals with Korey Ross on guitar/vocals/keys.

Mystic Roots second album, Cali-Hi, didn’t drop until 2010, which was 12 years after their debut record. Cali-Hi was followed by Camp Fire, Vol. 1 – Camp (Roots) that dropped in 2013 with Change being the groups first full-length record since as they continue to build momentum.

Surrounded By The Sound Music & Arts Festival

South Carolina’s rising reggae rock trio Sun-Dried Vibes, have once again assembled one of the year’s top reggae festivals. Surrounded by the Sound Music Arts Festival (SBTS) is going down September 1-4, 2017 in Longcreek, SC at the Chattooga River Resort Campground. The SBTS lineup particularly highlights the full-buffet of East Coast talent, featuring top acts like Passafire, The Movement, and Ballyhoo!, as well as an overload of emerging artists such as Treehouse, Roots of Creation, and Roots of a Rebellion.
SBTS-Full-Photo
The boys in Sun-Dried Vibes previously hosted and organized Irie Vibes Music Festival for 4 years, but renamed and rebranded this year’s festival as Surrounded By The Sound (a lyric taken from the group’s track “Young One” featuring Jeremy Anderson of Treehouse). The grassroots reggae-rock festival is shaping up to be a can’t miss, collecting nearly every East Coast act, while also sprinkling in West Coast favorites like Through The Roots (CA) and The Late Ones (HI).

Sun-Dried Vibes front-man and SBTS founder Zach Fowler explains, “In the wake of Cali Roots: The Carolina Sessions taking time off, we wanted to make sure that the East Coast still had a reggae-rock festival where people could soak up the good vibes provided by their favorite bands, in an atmosphere where they feel welcomed and safe.”

SBTS features 38 bands and performers that will play across 4 different stages. The weekend is bound to be filled with guest sit-ins and features, due to the fact that many of the festival’s artists have formed tight friendships and have collaborated on each other’s tracks in the past. In fact, Fowler alone has joined up on songs with groups like TreeHouse!, Tropidelic, Bumpin’ Uglies, Oogee Wawa, Of Good Nature, Roots of a Rebellion, See Water, and Lovely Budz. All of which are scheduled to perform at SBTS.

In addition to a full weekend of music, SBTS will hold a disc golf tournament, numerous workshops including yoga, hula hooping, fire spinning and glass glowing, as well art galleries, a kids zone with activities for children of all ages, and tons of food and art vendors.

Check out the links below to purchase tickets, apply to volunteer, or to find out more information about the festival and all the amazing bands scheduled to perform. See you down in South Carolina!

Kash’d Out’s “Baby Don’t Go” Background:

During the tracking of their new album The Hookup, due out May 26th via Law Records, front-man Greg Shields was also co-writing ‘Girls‘ — Ballyhoo!’s new record. Shortly after those sessions, Greg traveled with Ballyhoo! on the Vans Warped Tour 2016 where he was introduced to Hawaii’s own reggae-rock legends, Pepper. Since Greg had also co-written Ballyhoo!’s Daydreams, which was released through Pepper’s label, LAW Records, Greg patiently waited for the right moment to show Pepper Kash’d Out’s new material.

This will be the first album of 2017 to be released under Law Records, following a 2016 year that saw the label releasing Pepper’s Ohana” in April, the Darenots’ ‘The Truth Is Now’ in May and Katastro’s “Strange Nights” in October to round a great return for the label.

With Kash’d Out’s new release, The Hookup, fans are going to hear 14 brand new songs, with a guest feature by Howi Spangler of Ballyhoo!. The songs are upbeat, poppy, funny, with good melody and rhythm, under an enjoyable umbrella of constant reggae that doesn’t feel in anyway repetitive — It’s actually a great start-to-finish listen. After receiving an advance copy of the album, I genuinely feel that this will be a record that will give you a good and lasting impression.

The albums first single, “Yes I,” has been released and you can find the music video for that song below.

My personal favorite of the album is a song called “Baby Don’t Go.” I love the tone of the track and how they occasionally drop the beat out of the hook before bringing it back to drive home the spirit of the song’s sentiment in pleading to his love not to go.

Here’s what Greg told The Pier when we asked about the song: “Everyone has someone they love, and that’s a powerful feeling which is subject to change. Sometimes in life we’re forced to battle the decision to let our someone go, or to keep them around. When the smoke clears, its easy to feel you’ve made the wrong decision, but is it too late? ‘Baby Don’t Go’ touches on all of that, and I know someone out there can relate.”

Kash’d Out Background:

Straight out of Orlando, FL, Kash’d Out was formed by guitarist Jackson Hauserman and producers Greg Shields Josh Saldate of Sound Lounge Studios. Sound Lounge was a recording home to bands such as Ballyhoo!, Tribal Seeds and many more. Armed with knowledge, experience and true passion for what they do, Kash’d Out’s focus is to put out positive energy through catchy tunes, to help the continued growth of our flourishing reggae/rock community.

Once their self-titled debut EP was complete, Kash’d Out recruited Joey Brohawn on Bass, Marshall Hearne on drums and Nick Gudzan on keys. Now, with the line-up complete, the band hit the studio to record tracks for their second record.

Fast forward to 2017, Kash’d Out is fresh off of a nationwide tour with Pepper/Less Than Jake followed by another with Pacific Dub, and their new full-length album aptly named The Hookup drops May 26th on LAW Records.
